Cwm Taf Fechan
Hi..I love the image of Cwm Taf Fechan..I live in Blackwood and studying city and guilds an one of the units i am doing this year is waterscape.....
I would like to visit these fall are they behind the old Kwik save...
Cwm Taf Fechan Reserve is near the old Kwik Save site (now a 2nd hand
car business). Follow the road past the old Kwik Save downhill and you
will come to a bridge over Taf Fechan. If you can park here its an
area well worth exploring, smashing gorge and some nice falls.
Downstream about 20 m or so is the Blue Pool and associated fall. You
can reach Cwm Taf by following the river downstream, but it isn't easy
and I've never done it.
Much easier is to cross the bridge and drive uphill to a junction.
Take left branch and continue onwards past Trefechan heading towards
Cefn Coed y Cwmmer. Watch for a large lay-by on right hand side
(signposted for a Golf Course). You could park here but its safer to
park in the smaller lay-by on the left hand side a 100m or so further
on. From here go down a small number of steps and you will be on the
Taf Trail. Go left (parallel to the road you arrived on) and walk on
for 500m or so. Look for a well maintained path descending on your
right. Follow path down into the wooded valley and cross the river via
the wooden bridge. Follow river upstream to see the gorge and all its
